Google has started rolling out Personal Intelligence for Gemini on Android Auto, according to 9to5Google, TechCrunch, Ars Technica and Engadget. The feature lets the in-car assistant draw on your Gmail, Google Calendar, Maps, Photos, Search and YouTube to give more personalized answers without you spelling everything out.
The rollout begins today for Android Auto users, with cars that have Google built-in set to get it in the coming months. Personal Intelligence is opt-in, and Google says drivers stay in control of which apps Gemini can access.
What Gemini Personal Intelligence does in the car
Google says the feature makes Gemini better at handling natural, complex requests while you drive. Instead of giving a full address, you can say "take me to my doctor's appointment" and Gemini can pull that from your connected calendar. If you are heading to the airport, you can ask "what's my flight gate?" and "is my flight on time?" in the same breath.
Gemini can also use your preferences and saved places. For example, Google says you could ask for an indoor restaurant along your route that matches your usual vibe, and the assistant would factor in things like dietary needs without you repeating them every time.
According to Ars Technica, the feature uses visual analysis to find locations in your photos and start navigation. Engadget notes that you can control which apps Gemini can access, and that the rollout is global starting today, except in Switzerland, the European Economic Area, the UK and Nigeria.
