Amazon and Uber are teaming up to make Uber Eats the official restaurant delivery partner for Prime members in the United States. The partnership, announced Thursday, lets subscribers order takeout directly through Amazon.com and the Amazon Shopping app, with no separate Uber account required. Prime members pay $0 in delivery fees on orders of $25 or more, and Amazon handles the ordering process and delivery alerts while Uber Eats sends the final receipt.
The deal marks Amazon's return to restaurant delivery after it shut down its in-house Amazon Restaurants service years ago, and it ends the company's long-running commercial agreement with Grubhub. Amazon says the partnership could save Prime members as much as $175 a year, though that figure assumes frequent ordering.
Amazon Prime and Uber Eats: how the deal works
From the Prime member's side, the experience stays inside Amazon. Shoppers browse restaurants, pay with saved Amazon payment methods, and track their order without ever opening the Uber Eats app or creating an Uber login.
Uber says the setup is meant to let people buy meals, groceries and everyday household items in one place. The two companies already work together on cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis and the integration of Uber Eats into Amazon's AI-powered Alexa+ assistant.
- $0 delivery fees on Uber Eats orders of $25 or more placed via Amazon
- No Uber account needed; existing Amazon payment methods work at checkout
- Nearly 10,000 US cities and towns support the integration
