OpenAI is rolling out a major visual overhaul for ChatGPT. According to TechCrunch, the new interface, called Intelligent UI, began rolling out globally on Wednesday alongside a new GPT-6 model, bringing interactive visuals directly into users' conversations.
Instead of just plain text or static images, ChatGPT will now generate things like tappable buttons, customized calculators, interactive charts and editable graphs. OpenAI says the goal is to make learning complex topics easier, and the feature marks one of the chatbot's biggest product changes since its launch.
What Intelligent UI can do
During a call with journalists, OpenAI product manager Aarush Selvan explained that while ChatGPT has predominantly been a text-based interface, the company wants to help users get things done. As an example, he showed how asking ChatGPT to explore how an airplane wing generates lift quickly produced a series of diagrams showing how planes stay in the air.
Other examples demonstrated by the company include visuals for recipes, a diagram explaining bicycle mechanics, a map for a multi-day hiking excursion and a personal savings calculator. Many of these elements are interactive, meaning users can work with them directly inside the chat instead of just reading text.
- Tappable buttons and interactive charts inside conversations
- Customized calculators for specific tasks
