DeepSeek has reportedly raised about $15 billion, or roughly 100 billion yuan, in one of the biggest funding rounds ever seen in China, according to Bloomberg. The news landed just two days after the United States ordered federal civilian agencies to remove the Chinese AI lab's technology from their systems over security concerns.
The reported round follows DeepSeek's June investment, when it raised more than $7 billion at a $50 billion valuation. The Hangzhou-based company is pouring money into AI infrastructure and open models for both domestic and international markets, even as it faces growing restrictions in the US.
Who is backing DeepSeek's $15B round
Citing the Bloomberg report, TechCrunch says potential investors include Chinese battery maker CATL and Tencent, the company behind WeChat, among others. DeepSeek did not immediately respond to a TechCrunch request for comment, so the round has not been confirmed by the company itself.
