Figma used its first Config event in India to announce new tools that define how AI agents work inside its design platform. The headline feature is Figma Specs, a Markdown-based editor where teams write down their design language so both human designers and AI agents can follow the same rules.
The company also moved its code layers feature into public beta and deepened its integration with Payload, the open-source headless CMS it acquired last year. Figma says the announcements aim to give teams more control over AI-generated design, which is still unpredictable by nature.
What Figma Specs does for design teams
Figma Specs is a Markdown editor that lets users describe their design language in plain text. The document can live as a standalone file in Figma or sit directly on the canvas alongside design work. It acts as a shared reference for teams and for AI agents building inside Figma.
Beyond plain text, users can reference other Figma elements, embed FigJam diagrams, code layers and designs, and pull in design libraries, code libraries and guidelines. The goal, according to Figma, is a centralized system that agents can consult so their output sticks to a brand's rules.
