Google has launched Playground, a new experimental gaming platform that uses AI to create custom games from text prompts. The platform is designed for people who want to build games without knowing how to code or draw, according to Google's announcement and Engadget's report.
Playground is available now in the United States for users 18 and older, but access is tiered based on your Google One membership. It is not yet available in Tunisia or other regions, and Google has not announced a timeline for wider rollout.
How Google Playground works
Playground works like most AI chatbots: you type a prompt describing the game you want to build. You can also select whether it is a 2D or 3D game and, for certain genres, whether it is single-player or multiplayer. If you need inspiration, you can remix starter prompts or use guided support.
After the initial output, you can refine the game with further prompts. For example, if you are building a platformer, you can ask Playground to let the player double-jump to reach higher platforms. This iterative approach lets you shape mechanics, physics, and graphics without writing code.
- Create games from text prompts without coding or drawing skills
- Choose between 2D or 3D games, and for select genres single-player or multiplayer
- Use starter prompts or guided support, or remix existing ideas
- Shape game mechanics, physics, and graphics with follow-up prompts
