Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the GT SUV, its first full-size SUV developed entirely in-house in the performance brand's 59-year history. According to The Verge, the electric people-hauler arrives in the US next summer with up to 1,153hp and the same trio of axial flux motors found in the AMG GT four-door coupe.
Built on Mercedes' high-performance AMG.EA platform, the GT SUV aims to blend sports-car handling with full-size practicality. It will launch in three trims — GT 53, GT 55 and the flagship GT 63 — and Mercedes-AMG claims the top version out-muscles the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric with Launch Control.
Mercedes-AMG GT SUV specs and charging
The headline numbers come from an 800-volt architecture. The GT 63 and GT 55 use a 128kWh battery that supports charging up to 710kW, while the GT 53 gets a 106kWh pack capped at 600kW. Mercedes says drivers can go from 10 to 80 percent in 12 minutes, or add up to 450km (around 280 miles) of WLTP range in just 10 minutes.
The larger battery is estimated to deliver a maximum range of 435 miles. It uses F1-inspired technology with specialized NCMA cathodes, silicon-containing anodes and cylindrical cells, cooled by an electrically nonconductive oil that flows directly around each cell for uniform thermal management.
