Two unannounced PlayStation products have shown up in a Wi-Fi Alliance certification, according to The Verge, and the paperwork points toward a possible refresh of the PlayStation Portal, Sony's handheld for game streaming. The listing, first spotted this week, covers devices classified as "Gaming Console/Peripherals" under the model numbers CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105.
Those numbers sit above the CFI-Y1001 identifier used by the Portal currently on sale, which is why the rumor mill is calling this a Portal update rather than a brand-new console. The certification documents also say the devices run Android 15, the same platform family as the existing Portal. Sony has not commented.
PlayStation Portal OLED rumors explained
The OLED talk predates this filing. Hardware leaker KeplerL2 said earlier this year, as reported by VideoCardz, that Sony was working on "another version" of the Portal for this year and described it as an "OLED version." Today's certification does not confirm a screen change on its own, but it gives that claim a paper trail.
Worth remembering: The Verge stresses none of this is official. Certification databases reveal that hardware exists and is being prepared for sale, not what it looks like, what it costs or when it ships. Treat the OLED part as a rumor until Sony says otherwise.
What the certification actually says
Beyond the model numbers and the operating system, the filing is thin. The new devices are certified for 1x1 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, with no 6GHz support listed and no sign of extra antennas, which suggests streaming performance is not getting a dramatic boost from the radio side.
For context, the Portal is not a standalone console. It streams games either from a PlayStation 5 in your home or from Sony's cloud, which keeps the hardware simpler and cheaper than a full handheld. Sony made that point itself in June, noting that cloud streaming "requires minimal memory, making it an increasingly attractive low-cost thin client device" as memory prices rise. The original Portal, with its 8-inch LCD screen, launched in late 2023.
