SK Hynix reported third-quarter revenue of about $78.8 billion, up 327.9% year over year, beating analyst estimates of roughly $74.07 billion. Operating profit surged 632.1% to approximately $62.76 billion, also above the expected $57.78 billion, according to CNBC.
Compared with the previous quarter, revenue climbed 31.9% and operating profit rose 37.6%. The South Korean chipmaker posted record quarterly revenue and operating profit, with sales exceeding 100 trillion won for the first time. The results underscore how high-bandwidth memory (HBM) has become the bottleneck of the AI boom.
HBM4 and SK Hynix's AI memory roadmap
SK Hynix expects HBM4, the sixth generation of high-bandwidth memory, to surpass HBM3E in both shipments and revenue in the fourth quarter. The company is ramping up production at its M15X facility in Cheongju, South Korea.
The chipmaker has secured long-term agreements with 14 major customers covering more than 50% of its production capacity for 2027 and 2028. It expects memory demand to outpace supply through 2030 and plans to significantly increase investment next year.
