TikTok has quietly released a standalone app for TikTok Shop, its e-commerce platform, in a handful of countries. The app was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra and is currently available on iOS and Android in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, according to TechCrunch and Engadget.
The launch signals that TikTok is preparing a bigger push into online shopping, giving its commerce business a dedicated home outside the main TikTok app. TikTok has not responded to requests for comment from multiple outlets, and it remains unclear whether the app will expand to other regions, including the United States.
What the TikTok Shop app offers
According to its App Store listing, the new TikTok Shop app is a streamlined version of the shopping experience already embedded in TikTok. It promises personalized picks, live shopping, and exclusive discounts that are not available on the main platform, The Verge reported.
The app also includes secure payments, order tracking, and round-the-clock support. By offering app-only deals, TikTok is clearly trying to pull shoppers away from the main TikTok app and into a dedicated commerce space.
