Apple has launched its own smart home hardware for the first time, ending more than a decade of leaving that job to other companies. The Apple Home Collection includes cameras, thermostats, sensors, a smart door lock and a video doorbell, all codeveloped with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, according to The Verge.
The lineup arrives alongside HomeView, Apple's first smart display, which 9to5Mac reports is priced at $299. The products were announced at Apple's "Welcome home" event in New York this week, and Apple frames them around one-tap setup, tight integration with its ecosystem and data privacy.

Apple is not building every device alone. The Home Collection was codeveloped with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, a sign that Apple wants its own branded hardware without owning the entire supply chain.
The $299 HomeView display is the centrepiece of the strategy. According to The Verge, Apple sees it as a gateway: buy one for music, guided cooking recipes and your calendar, and you may soon add a camera or smart lock to go with it.
