Apple has confirmed a special product launch event for October 13, tagged 'Welcome home,' which strongly suggests a focus on smart home products. The event will include an in-person experience for press in New York City and, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, an online video presentation.
The star of the show is expected to be Apple's first smart display, rumored to be called the HomePad, marking a major push into the smart home market after years of neglect. Apple is also expected to update the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini with faster chips to support Siri AI and Apple Intelligence.
HomePad smart display: Specs, features, and design
According to Bloomberg, the HomePad will feature a 6-inch square display mounted on a half-dome base with a metal arm, available in two variations: one for wall mounting and one for countertops. The design has been likened to Apple's iconic iMac G4.
The device will run a new tvOS-based 'homeOS' and will primarily be controlled via Siri AI. It will also support touchscreen interactions and run iPadOS-style apps, opening up possibilities for video streaming and other functionality. A standout feature is its ability to recognize multiple people in a household and dynamically adjust the interface based on who is looking at it, though it won't use Face ID.
