Samsung may keep Exynos out of its most expensive Galaxy S phone next year. A new insider tip, reported by GSMArena, claims the Galaxy S27 Ultra will ship exclusively with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, dashing hopes that Samsung's own chip would finally return to the Ultra line.
The same tip says a final decision has not been made yet, but that a Qualcomm-only Ultra is the most likely outcome. It has not been confirmed by Samsung, so treat it as a leak rather than a fact.
Galaxy S27 chipset plans: what the leak says
The claim splits Samsung's next flagship family in two. The Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+ and the new Galaxy S27 Pro would still use Exynos chips in Europe and Korea and Snapdragon in China and the US, following the dual-chip strategy Samsung has used for years. Only the Galaxy S27 Ultra would go Qualcomm-only worldwide.
That would be a blow for Samsung System LSI, which designs the Exynos line and is reportedly pushing hard for the chip to reach the top S flagship. Earlier accounts describe the Exynos 2700 as an excellent chip, so the decision seems to be about strategy and capacity rather than raw performance.
- Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra: Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 in every region, per the tip
- Samsung Galaxy S27, S27+ and S27 Pro: Exynos in Europe and Korea, Snapdragon in China and the US
- Exynos 2700: built on Samsung's SF2P node, a second-generation 2nm Gate-All-Around process
- SF2P vs SF2: 12% more performance, 25% less power use, 8% smaller chip area
