Google Gemini can now generate, preview and edit files without leaving the chat. Announced by Google and reported by The Verge and GSMArena, the feature started rolling out to all Gemini users today, across every language the app supports.
Until now, Gemini could already create documents, spreadsheets and other files, but changing them meant downloading or exporting the file first. The update removes that step, turning the chat itself into a light editing workspace for Docs, Sheets, PDFs, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files and code.
Gemini file editing: what you can actually do
Inside the chat, files can be expanded to full-screen mode so you can type your edits directly. You can also highlight a section of a file, ask Gemini questions about it, or tell it to rework the text or the visuals. Google gives the example of highlighting a table and asking Gemini to turn it into a graph.
- PDF preview and editing: available on both web and mobile.
- Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown, TXT and code: web only for now.
- Full-screen mode for expanding and editing documents.
- Highlight text to ask Gemini questions or request changes.
- Available to all Gemini users, in all supported languages, starting today.
