Apple's iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in 2026, while the first Pro-branded iPhone — the iPhone 11 Pro — launched in 2019 at $999. That is a $200 jump across seven years, according to Engadget's comparison of the two base models.
The increase is not spread evenly. The iPhone 16 Pro was still $999 two years ago, and the iPhone 17 Pro started at $1,099, so most of the rise has landed in the last two generations. Apple is absorbing higher RAM and component costs across the industry, and the iPhone 18 Pro's base storage now starts at 256GB rather than the 64GB of 2019.
iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 11 Pro: what changed
The iPhone 11 Pro introduced Apple's first triple-camera setup with wide, ultra-wide and 2x telephoto lenses, a brighter Super Retina XDR OLED display, a matte glass back and the U1 ultra-wideband chip. It kept the Lightning port and dropped 3D Touch to make room for a bigger battery.
The iPhone 18 Pro moves much further. It runs on the 2nm A20 Pro chipset with 12GB of RAM, adds a variable aperture main camera (f/1.48 to f/4.0), a smaller Dynamic Island, a larger vapor chamber and Apple's in-house C2 cellular modem. Storage runs from 256GB to 2TB.
