Apple has taken the Apple Store offline ahead of today's iPhone Duo preorder rush, following its usual launch-day tradition, as reported by 9to5Mac. Preorders for Apple's first foldable open Friday, October 16 at 8:00 a.m. ET / 5:00 a.m. PT.
The timing matters because all reports point to constrained supply and relatively high demand. Anyone hoping to get an iPhone Duo on launch day, October 23, will need to be ready to order the moment preorders go live.
iPhone Duo specs and price
The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable. It combines a 7.6-inch inner display with a 5.4-inch outer display when closed, and Apple says a custom hinge design plus a nano-texture matte finish keep the crease to a minimum.
It runs on Apple's latest A20 Pro chip, which should deliver computational performance close to the iPhone 18 Pro line, according to 9to5Mac. The cameras are a downgrade because of the thinner design when unfolded, and the Duo uses Touch ID rather than Face ID.
iOS 27.1 debuts with the device and adds software optimizations for the unusual form factor. A new vertical bar places controls in updated apps along the right edge of the phone for easy thumb access, and Apple's own apps now expand smoothly between the outer and inner displays.
- 7.6-inch inner display and 5.4-inch outer display when closed
- Apple A20 Pro chip, with performance in the ballpark of the iPhone 18 Pro line
- Minimal crease when unfolded, via a custom hinge and a nano-texture matte finish on the inner screen
