Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo opened on Friday, and Apple's first foldable phone is already sold out well into next year. Shipping estimates in the United States have slipped as late as January 2027, according to Engadget and 9to5Mac, with some countries — Brazil among them — showing delivery windows in early February.
Apple described the early response in a statement to CNBC as "nothing short of extraordinary." The company added that it is "working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers' hands as quickly as possible" and will keep accepting orders online. The delays matter because the iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable and its most expensive iPhone yet, with prices starting at $1,999.
iPhone Duo shipping dates and pre-order chaos
The slip happened fast. According to 9to5Mac, estimates moved from late October to November, then December, then January as orders piled up. Engadget reports that some customers can still pick up an order at an Apple Store as early as October 23, while others see November or December delivery windows.
Apple has not confirmed whether its physical stores or authorized retailers will hold in-store stock, though its website mentions "shopping in-store or online for iPhone Duo" and points buyers to check back for availability on 10.24. Best Buy's website was showing November shipping estimates at the time of publication.
The shortage has also opened the door to resellers. 9to5Mac reports that scalpers on eBay and X are asking as much as $10,000 for early units, prompting criticism of how Apple handled the pre-order process and calls for the company to cancel orders placed by scalpers. Apple has not commented on those listings.
