Samsung Electronics reported record third-quarter revenue and operating profit on Thursday, powered by demand for advanced memory chips used in artificial intelligence. Revenue rose 126.88% year on year to about $146.3 billion, while operating profit climbed 783.11% from a year earlier to roughly $80.5 billion, according to results first reported by CNBC.
Both figures landed broadly in line with analyst estimates and marked a fourth straight quarter of record revenue and profit for the South Korean giant. Samsung said it is the first global technology company to top 100 trillion won in quarterly operating profit, and shares were trading 5% lower after the announcement.
Samsung Q3 earnings: the key numbers
Samsung's chip division did the heavy lifting. The semiconductor business posted 147.1 trillion won in revenue and 106.5 trillion won in operating profit, supported by strong AI-related memory demand, a significant ramp-up in HBM4 sales and growing demand for server solid-state drives. The memory business itself set records for both quarterly revenue and operating profit.
The company also announced 30 trillion won in cash dividends for the quarter, equal to 4,601 won per common and preferred share. It plans to return another 55 trillion to 75 trillion won to shareholders this year through dividends and share buybacks, with the board set to finalize the total returns and execution plans at a meeting scheduled for late January 2027.
