OnePlus has made the OnePlus 16 official in China, and the headline number is hard to ignore: a 9,000 mAh battery. That is a jump from the 7,300 mAh cell in the OnePlus 15, and it puts the new flagship at the top of the spec sheet in a year full of big-battery Android phones. The launch was announced earlier this week, with open sales in China starting on October 31.
The upgrade goes beyond battery capacity. OnePlus has also moved to a 200MP main camera, addressing one of the most common complaints about the OnePlus 15, while the display refresh rate has been pushed to 185Hz. The catch is that the phone is not expected to launch in most global markets, since OnePlus has pulled out of or scaled back in effectively every region outside China.
OnePlus 16 specs and price
According to 9to5Google, the OnePlus 16 brings a notable set of upgrades over its predecessor. The 9,000 mAh battery is the largest one OnePlus has put in a flagship, and the 200MP main camera replaces the older array that had been criticized on the OnePlus 15. The phone is positioned to compete with other recent Android flagships that have pushed battery capacity and camera resolution higher.
The display story comes with a small asterisk. GSMArena notes that the 185Hz panel is limited to 165Hz in general use, and only opens up to the full 185Hz refresh rate when gaming. Wired charging is also slower than before, which is an unusual trade-off for a phone that otherwise leans heavily on raw specifications. Pricing in China starts at CNY 5,999, which is about $900 USD and roughly 2,610 TND at current rates.
- Battery: 9,000 mAh, up from 7,300 mAh on the OnePlus 15
- Main camera: 200MP sensor
- Display: 185Hz refresh rate, limited to 165Hz in general use
